History of Reiki

Reiki is a hands on healing, developed in Japan during the early 1900s by Dr Mikao Usui. His knowledge was passed on and in the 1970s a Japanese American Mrs Hawayo Takata brought Reiki to the West. The general translation of Reiki is ‘universal life energy’ which is transferred through the practitioner’s hands to the client.

What does it feel like during a session?

A Reiki session is given to a client while fully who is lying on a massage table or sitting comfortably in a chair. During a treatment, you may feel Reiki energy as hot, cold, tingling, a breeze, energy movement inside, or muscles twitching as Reiki  re-stimulates the body's innate healing process.

Some people experience colors, sounds or smells or a sensation from one of their senses. Alternatively, some people feel nothing at all. It is not important to understand what each experience means, just to accept it as part of the experience.  What matters more is to be aware of whats happening in the body and mind during a session and notice what happens to symptoms over a period of time.  When the flow of your “Life Force Energy” is being interrupted or blocked, physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual issues can arise. Reiki is wonderful for healing any any or all of these areas, while filling the client with feelings of peace and calming.
